The Italian Job

The car that made the Swinging Sixties. 16 Minis were used during production; all of them either being written off in the chase scenes or scrapped and abandoned afterwards. Three were later rescued and restored by a private collector.

The car of George Lucas' youth brought to life on screen. Customised specially for the film, this hot rod initially couldn't be sold for the asking price after filming, before it grew in cult status just like the movie.

After helping Burt Reynolds 'bootleg' illegal beverages across the U.S, the Trans AM became one of the world's most iconic cars. Reynolds was even promised a Trans AM for life by GM, an offer that was later rescinded.

The spy who loved me

Arguably the most famous Bond car of them all, with a top speed of 138mph. One of the models used for filming was a fully working submarine, however the bubbles from the car were actually made using Alka-Seltzer tablets.

Mad Max

Legend has it, producers on the first Mad Max film could only afford one car for the entire filming process. And that iconic supercharger on the bonnet; not real, just a prop. Never the less, the Interceptor went on to become a big screen icon.

Ghostbusters

There were two cars used in the first Ghostbusters film. The first, the unconverted car at the start of the film, was converted into an Ecto-1 replica after filming. The second was the Ecto-1, or ‘Ectomobile’, which has sat on display in Sony’s backlot in America ever since.

Back to the Future

As a production car it was a disaster, but as a Hollywood legend it's never been beaten. The 'time-travelling' DeLorean's PRV V6 engine was actually dubbed over with recorded sounds of a V8 as it raced up to 88mph.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Could there be a better car to use when playing truant? Thankfully, a fibreglass model was used for the destruction scene. The real car, meanwhile, is now one of the most expensive cars ever sold at auction - going for $10.9 million in 2008.

The car from the legendary road-trip movie that made feminist icons of cop-dodging duo Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis. Five Thunderbirds were used during filming, each with 300+ bhp and a top speed of 120mph.
